RJ Hoyman Scholarships

(Available late summer into fall term)

The RJ Hoyman Scholarship supports students who have demonstrated commitment through community service, leadership, advocacy, and/or education to the Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, agender, aromantic, and asexual (2SLGBTQIA3+) community and who have excelled in their academics. Selection is based on the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate students admitted to and scheduled for enrollment at the UO;
  • Demonstration of a commitment to the 2SLGBTQIA3+ community within the state of Oregon; and
  • Academic merit or achievement, as determined by the scholarship selection committee.

Special consideration is given to first-year students, transfer students, and first-generation college students.

How to Apply

To apply for the RJ Hoyman Scholarship, please complete responses to the following questions or prompts:

  • In what ways have you demonstrated commitment through community service, leadership, advocacy, and/or education to the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Agender, Aromantic, and Asexual (2SLGBTQIA3+) community?
  • Please provide your current cumulative GPA on a 4.00 scale.
  • Please describe any academic achievements or awards from high school and beyond, which are not reflected by your GPA.
  • In the future, how do you intend to contribute to the 2SLGBTQIA3+ community at UO?

Scholarship for Arts and Advocacy in the Lesbian Community

(Coming winter term)

The Scholarship for Arts and Advocacy in the Lesbian Community is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students majoring in the arts or music who have demonstrated their commitment and contributions to the lesbian community via leadership, service, and/or advocacy.

John R. Moore Scholarship

(Available late winter term into spring term)

This scholarship is presented to undergraduate and graduate students who excel in their contributions to the Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, agender, asexual, aromantic (2SLGBTQIA3+) community at the University of Oregon. Factors for selection may include leadership positions, service to the 2SLGBTQIA3+ community, study and research as it relates to 2SLGBTQIA3+ identities and experiences and/or initiative to supporting the progress of 2SLGBTQIA3+ rights. The monetary allocation of this scholarship varies by year.

How to Apply

To apply for the John R. Moore Scholarship, please complete the following:

  • Honors and Awards supplemental questions (as applicable)
  • Respond "Yes" to the John R. Moore Scholarship question
  • Complete the John R. Moore supplemental question: Describe how you have contributed to the Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, agender, asexual, aromantic (2SLGBTQIA3+) community at the University of Oregon. This may include leadership positions, service to the 2SLGBTQIA3+ community, study and research as it relates to 2SLGBTQIA3+ identities and experiences and/or initiative to supporting the progress of 2SLGBTQIA3+ rights.

Recipients of this award are invited to the annual Honors and Awards ceremony.
