Student Conduct Code

The University of Oregon Student Conduct Code ensures your rights as a student are protected. While you’re entitled to respect and civility, you also have responsibilities to the campus community. The code outlines these responsibilities and the university’s expectations for your behavior as a UO student.

Prohibited Conduct 

Prohibited conduct is broken into four types of misconduct: academic misconduct, substance use misconduct, general misconduct, and discriminatory misconduct. Full definitions can be found in the Student Conduct Code.

Standard Operating Procedures

Residence Life Resolution Process

In some cases, the director of Student Conduct and Community Standards delegates authority to Residence Life staff to review reports of alleged misconduct which occur within University Housing and to resolve those allegations through the Residence Life resolution process. Responsible Action Protocol

The university does not condone underage drinking, illegal drug use, or violations of other university policies; however, the safety of our students is of paramount importance and it is critical that the university create an environment that is conducive to reporting of sexual misconduct and emergency medical issues. Consequently, no student experiencing or reporting sexual misconduct or seeking medical assistance for an alcohol- or other drug-related emergency will be subject to UO student conduct action related to the possession or consumption of alcohol or drugs.

This procedure applies to students who experience sexual misconduct, those who are actively supporting that student, and/or those who call for assistance in a medical emergency. To be eligible for this accommodation, a student must take the initiative to get assistance by notifying the appropriate authorities (e.g. calling 9-1-1, alerting a resident assistant, or connecting with a health provider, counselor, or advocate in the case of sexual misconduct.) In cases of a medical emergency involving drugs or alcohol, the primary concern is the health and safety of the individual(s) involved. Students are strongly encouraged to call for medical assistance (9-1-1) for themselves or for another student whom they observe to be dangerously intoxicated/under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If a student calls on behalf of another student, that student is required to remain with the student experiencing the emergency until medical assistance arrives.

Although there is no limit to the number of referrals a student may give or receive, students should be advised that in consistently putting the student’s health and safety first, the university will approach serious or repeated incidents with a higher degree of concern and a higher level of intervention.
