Statement from the University of Oregon: Interfraternity Council Decision

(February 27, 2024) Over the last month, the University of Oregon received allegations of students unknowingly ingesting substances that caused some level of incapacitation or medical care by people attending events sponsored by Greek-lettered organizations.

In order to protect the health and safety of the campus community, two organizations were placed on temporary suspension while the university continues to investigate the allegations.

In addition, and as a preventative measure, the members of the Interfraternity Council elected to not hold social events involving alcohol through April 15, 2024.

The university supports the Interfraternity Council’s decision to cancel events with alcohol while the member chapters work to create a safer and healthier environment for their members and guests of their events.

In addition to continuing to investigate the allegations, the university will continue to support these organizations through education and training. This support will include but not be limited to the expertise of the UO Police Department, the Office of the Dean of Students, Prevention Services (including Sexual Violence Prevention Education and Substance Misuse Prevention Education), and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
