The Raices Unidas Youth Conference (RUYC) is an annual conference hosted by the University of Oregon Mecha chapter. The RUYC is for Latine high schoolers from across Oregon to come together and learn about access, advocacy, and community within higher education. This year’s theme is “Quién tu Eres,” which is a homage to spaces such as the Nuyorican Poets Cafe that the Latine community has created to share their stories with an audience. Similar to spaces where slam poetry is shared, we aim to create a space for students to embrace their unique identities and express themselves. This theme speaks to the fact that there is power and resilience in being your most authentic self.
The 2023 RUYC–the 19th annual conference–will be held in person on Monday, May 15, from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. This event will consist of a keynote speaker leading a SpeakOut and discussing our theme, workshops, and opportunities to build a strong community.
Registration is now open for the 2023 RUYC! If you are interested in attending, please fill out the registration form below. To ensure that all schools have an opportunity to attend this event, we are limiting registration to 25 participants. We have a waitlist option if your school is interested in bringing more than 25 participants. Specifics about the waitlist are in the registration form.
