The Queer Ally Coalition (QAC) is a volunteer training workshop open to students, faculty, and staff who are looking for opportunities to expand dialogue and understanding for issues within the campus LGBTQIA+ community.
QAC was redeveloped from the standing Safe Zone program at the University of Oregon, which was implemented in 1992 as one of the first university programs to create a safe and visible atmosphere for lesbian, gay, and bisexual students. Our mission is to reduce homophobia, heterosexism, and gender bias at the UO by creating an atmosphere of understanding and acceptance for all members of our community.
Trainings Available
General QAC Training
This introductory, six-hour seminar provides active allyship education and development for UO students, staff, and faculty. No prior education is required!
If these training dates do not work for you, please sign up to join our emailing list to be notified about future training dates.
Check back for updates on QAC training dates for winter and spring 2023.
QAC Continuing Education
This program is only open to those who have completed General QAC Training. A series of panels, workshops, lectures, and trainings will provide opportunities for QAC members to continue engaging with the LGBTQIA+ community and develop allyship skills.
Facilitator Training
Would you like to become a QAC facilitator? Being a QAC facilitator means joining a team of students, faculty, and staff who have dedicated time to becoming active advocates and educators for the LGBTQIA+ community. Facilitator trainings are held throughout the year, and are open to any enrolled UO student, faculty, or staff member who has completed the general QAC training.
If you have not attended a QAC training in the last two years, we ask that you also sign up and attend one of the general QAC trainings listed above.
If you would like to participate in facilitator training, contact us at qac@uoregon.edu.
QAC Nomination Program
Do you know someone who would benefit from joining a visible network of allies across campus and accessing exclusive educational allyship opportunities? If you are a student at the UO, you are invited to nominate another member of the campus community by filling out a QAC student nomination form.
