Conduct Suspension Resource Guide

In Student Conduct and Community Standards, we serve the important role of upholding the standards of the University of Oregon through the administration of an educational and student-centered conduct process. We recognize that conduct sanctions resulting in suspensions can be extremely difficult for you as a student. This guide compiles answers to some of the questions you might have about being suspended from the UO.

Appeal Process

Appeals are due in writing within 14 calendar days of receiving your decision letter. You will not appear before the appeals board, so be sure to include everything you would like them to review. Learn more about the conduct process.

Attending Current Classes

If you plan to appeal: You may petition for a "stay of sanctions" during the appeals process. Please contact your student conduct case manager immediately to initiate this process.

If you do not plan to appeal: Your suspension begins immediately. The registrar will be notified of the suspension. You are responsible for withdrawing from your classes. Refer to “Tuition and Refunds” below.

Parental Notification

The university will not notify parents/guardians of your suspension. However, if they have access to your billing account, then they may discover that you are no longer enrolled. You are encouraged to reach out to family or loved ones to share this news of your suspension as soon as possible. Family can be a great source of support for you during this time.

Moving out of a Residence Hall

A move-out date and time will be provided to you. If you appeal your sanction and you are granted a "stay of sanctions," you may not need to move out until a final decision has been made. For more information about moving out following a suspension, please contact University Housing at 541-346-4277.

Tuition and Refunds

If your suspension takes effect during the term, you may be eligible for a partial tuition refund depending on your suspension date. Payment made for future terms will be credited to your account once your suspension is final. Learn more tuition refunds.

Ban from Housing and/or Campus

You will be notified in your decision letter if your suspension includes a ban from campus and/or housing facilities. If you are banned, you are not permitted to be on campus at any time without prior written permission from the director of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

You can use a secure portal to submit questions related to financial aid and retaining scholarships. Send a secure message to the financial aid office.

Access to Duck ID and UO Email

Depending on the duration of your suspension, you may lose access to your email. In most cases, your email access will end one year after the last term you were eligible for enrollment. Learn more about email access.

Student ID Card

Once a final decision has been made in your case, your UO identification card will lose functionality the term after your suspension.

Academic Transcript

Conduct matters will only appear on your academic transcript if a “transcript notation” has been applied in your decision letter. If you wish to order a transcript while suspended, you may order one at registrar.uoregon.edu/transcripts, assuming you do not have a transcript hold on your student account.

Taking Classes Elsewhere

While on suspension, you cannot enroll in UO courses, including online and other distance education options. If you want to take classes at another institution during your suspension, your academic advisor can provide guidance on what classes will transfer back to the UO and which ones will not.

Returning to the UO

If you choose to return to the UO, you may need to complete a reenrollment application depending on the number of terms you have been away. Learn more about reenrollment.

Additionally, as part of your action plan, you may be required to meet with your case manager. Please contact Student Conduct and Community Standards to set an appointment.

Life After the UO

You will need to consider that applications for graduate school and/or employment may ask if you have been suspended. Find more resources about suspension.
