The Red Zone refers to a spike in sexual assault cases on college campuses that occurs during the beginning of the fall term and extends through Thanksgiving break. Although every student, regardless of age or gender, is at risk, freshman females are the most vulnerable. Most college students who are sexually assaulted are harmed by someone they know. First-year women students are targeted as they explore new social dynamics and try and meet new people.
This year, the office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education and the Women’s Center are collaborating on an event to promote awareness and ways to practice mindfulness and self-care.
