Celebrating your 21st birthday can be exciting and may represent a rite of passage for many. Turning 21 can also bring up challenges, however, such as drinking heavily in a short amount of time, being pressured to drink more than previously, and drinking in unfamiliar spaces.
Through cross-campus and community collaboration, the Substance Abuse Prevention and Education (SAPE) team created the 21st Birthday Project, which provides our community with a pre-birthday information session and the opportunity to win exciting prizes. The goal of the project is to ensure you have a safe and memorable celebration!
During the week leading up to your 21st birthday, you will receive an email inviting you to participate in the program. Students who opt in will meet one on one with a peer educator and go through a brief information session. The meeting lasts no longer than 15 minutes! By participating you’ll be entered in a drawing for a chance to win $100 to The Duck Store as well as other on- and off-campus prizes. You will also build a birthday kit that includes a fun celebratory button and snacks.
The program must be completed on or before your 21st birthday. The SAPE peer educators are in the Office of the Dean of Students on the first floor of Oregon Hall. Please refer to the table below for the times our peer educators will be available. Upon entering the office, let the front desk staff know you are there for the 21st Birthday Project, and someone from the SAPE team will come out to meet you.
